Spring swing

It’s spring and the great outdoors is beckoning. The spring issue of Centurion Preview, the American Express magazine, exalts the joys of golf and highlights some of the world’s best courses. Primafila correspondent Aarti Betigeri spends a day at Canberra’s Federal Golf Club with two Scottish retirees, Alan Shroot and Len Leitch, who have been playing together for four decades. Leitch extols the virtues of the game, which allows him to compete as he ages. While retired physician Shroot enjoys being in nature, the complete exercise and the camaraderie the game provides.

Our medical writer Hildegard Kaulen interviews renowned sports psychologist Professor Hans-Dieter Hermann who shares his philosophy on success in sports as well as how to apply that to one’s professional and everyday life. Hermann stresses how breathing techniques along with the automated movement sequences of most sports, including golf, can activate neuronal structures in the brain, whether by physical activity or as a visualization exercise.

Keeping with the theme the magazine highlights some of the world’s best golf courses and resorts; Terre Blanche in Provence, Gleneagles in Scotland, and Finca Cortesin on Spain’s Costa Del Sol. With a newly launched golf program for members, Centurion offers specially arranged luxury golf packages in the Swiss Alps and Scotland.

Internationally acclaimed African artist Salif Keita will be featured in the upcoming Centurion Living series. With dates in Paris, Dubai, London and New York; Centurion invites members to experience the music of the “golden voice of Africa”.
